چکیده

Pre-white dwarf (PWD) evolution can be driven by energy losses from neutrino interactions in the core. Unlike solar neutrinos, these are not the by-product of nuclear fusion, but instead result from electron scattering processes in the hot, dense regions of the PWD core. We show that the observed rate of period change in cool PWD pulsators will constrain neutrino emission in their cores, and we identify appropriate targets for future observation. Such a measurement will tell us whether the theories of lepton interactions correctly describe the production rates and therefore neutrino cooling of PWD evolution. This would represent the first test of standard lepton theory in dense plasma. Constraining the neutrino magnetic dipole moment from white dwarf pulsations

Pulsating white dwarf stars can be used as astrophysical laboratories to constrain the properties of weakly interacting particles. Comparing the cooling rates of these stars with the expected values from theoretical models allows us to search for additional sources of cooling due to the emission of axions, neutralinos, or neutrinos with magnetic dipole moment. In this work, we derive an upper b...

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I

We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

The rate of period change in pulsating DB white dwarf stars

In this work, we present the theoretically expected rates of pulsation period change for V777 Her (DBV) variable stars. To this end we employ new evolutionary models representative of pulsating DB white dwarf stars computed in a self-consistent way with the predictions of time-dependent element diffusion. At the hot edge of the DB instability strip, the envelopes of the models are characterized...

The Pulsating Pre { White Dwarf Star PG 0122 + 200

We present an analysis of single{site time{series photometry of the pulsating pre{white dwarf PG 0122+200. We show the pulsations are consistent with a pattern of modes equally spaced in period; both the observed period range and spacing con rm that PG 0122 is a g{mode pulsator. PG 0122 shows a pattern similar to that seen in multi{site observations of PG 2131+066 and PG 1159{035. The measured ...

We present an analysis of single–site time–series photometry of the pulsating pre–white dwarf PG 0122+200. We show the pulsations are consistent with a pattern of modes equally spaced in period; both the observed period range and spacing confirm that PG 0122 is a g–mode pulsator. PG 0122 shows a pattern similar to that seen in multi–site observations of PG 2131+066 and PG 1159–035. The measured...
